by Kristen Seymour
Brought to Los Angeles from San Diego, the 10 hounds are among 67 beagles the organization has rescued from labs. This particular rescue stands out, however, due to the age of the dogs. Seven is easily senior territory for a beagle, which makes it all the more important to find the right families to help them live out their golden years.

Ravell Call / Deseret News
Just in time for Mother's Day, this heartwarming story of a mom's love transcending species lines caught our eye today.
According to Deseret News, the story starts out rather sad. At the end of April, a 10-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Bridget gave birth to two puppies, but neither survived. Shear madness: Hairstyle dos and don'ts for alpacas
Kerstin Joensson / AP
A WIN: Reminiscent of both David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust phase and Richard Marx's locks in the 1980s, this look is a timeless classic. To attain it, be careful to shear with care near the neckline, and try a nice amplifying shampoo to enhance volume.
Laura T. Coffey writes
If you’re an alpaca, you know how it is: You’re standing around, grazing and minding your own business, and all of a sudden some human comes along and shears off your fur so they can turn it into sweaters, coats and socks.
The experience is always a jarring one — but you know what? It provides an opportunity to a) exude confidence and b) LOOK STYLISH. More info...

Orphaned baby wallaby lives in a rucksack
Lisa Granshaw writes
When Tilly the wallaby became an orphan, zookeepers at the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in England had to get creative.
According to Getty, the baby marsupial was discovered outside her mother’s pouch in March, unable to care for herself. To replace the pouch Tilly would normally reside in, keepers created a substitute out of a rucksack and a blanket. More info...

Goats: Horns or No Horns
By Janice Spaulding
Horns or no horns, that is the question! Why should you disbud your goats, or is it okay to leave the horns on? This post discusses both options with a link to a great article about horns and their beauty.
In my last post I mentioned I would be talking about disbudding, and I am going to touch on it, but this is not the whole story. Let me explain. The following is what works for us, it is something that we choose to do, other people may feel very differently and have had different experiences, and that is fine! Everybody has different management practices. More info...

Doggie star Uggie to release autobiography
A new book is planned on the life of
Awards season scene stealer Uggie — he of "The Artist" and of being adorable fame — will release his memoir, "Uggie: My Story," on Gallery Books in October.
The Jack Russell terrier is collaborating with human biographer Wendy Holden on the project, which will include the story of his triumphant rise through Hollywood, including tails — er, tales — of working with stars like Reese Witherspoon in "Water for Elephants" and mingling with celebs like George Clooney, Katy Perry and Jessica Simpson.
Uggie, who attended Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner, was born in 2002 and was about to be sent to an animal shelter — his owners deemed him too wild — before animal trainer Omar Von Muller adopted him. More info...
